July 2024: Best Equine Veterinary Care Practices Newsletter

We're on the cover of the july issue!

We're so thrilled to share our clinic dreams and practice goals across the Northwest and beyond! Check out our feature here and share with others who can benefit from our vision.

holiday closures

We are available during the holiday for large animal established client emergencies we have seen in the last year. Small animal client emergencies please go to Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center. We will reopen Friday, July 5th.

Horses colic for all sorts of reasons, but dehydration is often the underlying cause. Before the temps soar into the triple digits make sure you have electrolyte paste on hand to give them during the heat wave, provide them with cool, fresh clean water, and hose them off once or twice during the day to help cool them. We are on call through the holiday and are open on the 5th so don't hesitate to call if you suspect a colic episode.

a special bond for austin

Many of you may remember the dear foal, Sagebrush Sioux. Austin was gifted Sioux’s mama, Sage, by Spanish Mustang breeder Dan Arpato of Lazy A4 Spanish Mustangs. Dan recognized Austin’s bond to both Sioux and her mama and wanted to honor that bond with this gift. Austin is beyond the moon. We’ll keep you updated with his training progress. Congratulations Austin!

Fireworks are a fun part of human celebrations, but animals don’t find it so much fun. While it's party time for you, it's panic time for them. Even if your pet is not afraid of fireworks, you should still take precautions to ensure they are safe during these times. In this brief article, I’ll be sharing some tips to help you handle their anxiety and keep them safe.

Forward booking simply means scheduling the next appointments for all patients before they leave our practice for their current visit. Forward booking applies to all types of exams and healthcare visits, including medical progress exams (“rechecks”) and preventive healthcare exams. We will books patients' next appointments in advance because it’s the best way for us to ensure that our patients are seen before any serious problems develop. It lets us provide the best care possible. Most of our clients prefer to do so as a matter of convenience and so we can be sure that our patients don’t miss a check-up that could reveal a health problem. We value all of our patients and feel this is what’s best for them.

Here’s how it works:

  • When you book your annual wellness exam we will automatically book you for the same time for a 6 mo. recheck AND a 12 month annual at the same time as your existing appointment.

  • When you come in for an urgent care visit or lameness exam you will be scheduled for rechecks.

  • You will receive an email confirmation for those future appointments.

  • 3 days before your appointment an email reminder will ask you to CONFIRM your appointment.

  • You may change your appt through our app or by calling 541-636-1191.
