Forward Booking Policy

ree

To better serve all clients and manage demand, here's a reminder about our forward booking policy. Forward booking helps ensure fair access to appointments and smooth scheduling throughout the year.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Priority booking for cherished clients. Clients that book annual appointments in 2025 are given priority booking and are scheduled at the same time, automatically, for 2026. Just like going to your dentist, your time is reserved for YOU!

  • You can change or adjust your forward booked appointments at any time. Just be prepared that if you cancel you may lose your same time slot for 2026.

  • Cancellation notice required. Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule appointments to avoid fees.

This policy allows us to plan resources efficiently and maintain high-quality care. We encourage you to plan ahead and secure your preferred times early.

Update on the EHV-1 Outbreak

ree

We know there are concerns about Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) and the related neurological form, Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy (EHM). We are actively tracking the situation and want to provide you with the most current, accurate information.

This data is current as of 11/24/25, based on communication with the US Department of Agriculture in California and Oregon.

Current Case Status (11/23/25)

GOOD NEWS! As of today, there are NO reported cases of the neurological form of EHV-1 in Southern Oregon or Northern California.

What You Need to Know

  • REPORTING IS LAW: It is required by law to report a positive EHV-1 neurological horse within 2 days.  Please rely on cases officially confirmed and released by the state vet, not speculation.

  • NOT ALL NEURO SIGNS ARE EHM: Remember, many diseases cause neurological signs. Not all reports of "neurological horses" are EHV-1.

About EHM (The Neurological Form)

  • Unfortunately, EHM is very dangerous and often results in euthanasia due to severe clinical signs.

  • RARE: This form is very rare, affecting only about 5-10% of infected horses.

  • RISK FACTORS: It is most commonly seen in animals over 20 years old and/or those in high-stress situations.

VACCINE LIMITATIONS: There is no known efficacy of current vaccines in preventing the neurological form.  However, vaccination may potentially limit viral shedding and reduce the severity of infection.

UNKNOWN FACTORS: The exact reason some horses develop EHM is unknown as the condition results from a mutation of the EHV-1 virus, and the percentage of current EHM horses that were fully vaccinated is also unknown.

About EHV-1

  • Equine herpesvirus (EHV) is extremely common, with almost 100% of horses exposed by age 2. This is the most common cause of respiratory disease in foals and weanlings.  And many horses are carriers for life.

  • EHV-1 has many variants/strains (like respiratory, venereal, and abortion forms).

  • KEY TAKEAWAY: Not all positive EHV-1 cases are the neurological form!

  • EHV-1 infections (outside of the neurological strain) are generally self-limiting and are not considered fatal or dangerous.

Most common initial symptom is low grade fever of >101.5. If you have traveled to any events or shows during this outbreak please quarantine your horse from other horses and take your horse's temperature daily for 21 days. Notify your veterinarian if you notice a fever.
