Disease Treatments and Protocols

At Massie Veterinary Services, we are well-versed in helping farmers and ranchers manage their records and develop plans for large-scale cattle, goat and sheep treatments.

Farms and ranches should have standard operating procedures in place to correctly identify and assess sick animals in a timely and efficient manner. At the same time, farmers and ranchers should work with their vet to develop treatment protocols for the most common conditions on their operation. This may include conditions such as foot rot & pinkeye and regionally specific ones like foothills abortion.

Treatment protocols may contain information such as:

  • An overview of the cause of the condition

  • Physical symptomatology

  • Instructions on the appropriate course of treatment to take, including all drug, dosage, and withdrawal information

  • Directions to take should treatment fail

An overuse of antibiotics in livestock can cause serious illness in humans and more importantly lead to resistant infections that are very hard to manage. Maintaining accurate treatment records is one way to support responsible antimicrobial use on farm operations. And whether you’re using old-school or new-school record keeping, Massie Veterinary Services is here to help.
